Xbox Softmod
My friend recently gave me a old xbox and wanted to mod it to play game backups and roms of classic consoles. I wanted to do it the easiest way possible and this seems to be it.
Hardware Used:
Software Used:
Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.4.5.Nknave.Edition.Xbox-Hq
Action Replay Software
One of these 3 games
Files needed based on the game you use
(You must copy SID4.Installer + Whatever game save corresponding to the game you will use to load the save file)
(Must copy!) SID4.Installer - - - - The main Installer
SID4.Loader.007AUF - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Loader for 007 Agent Under Fire
SID4.Loader.Mechassault - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Loader for Mechassault
SID4.Loader.SplinterCell.NTSC - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Loader for Splinter Cell (NTSC Version)

Step 1 : Checking Dash Board Version
You will want to have the latest dash (1.00.5960.01) if you don't, stick in a newer game and download the newest one.
Go into Settings > System Info
Settings
System Info
Let the text scroll down and you will see the version number
(1.00.5960.01) Recommended
Step 2: Copying Files to memory Card
( note: Memory card must be plugged into the 2nd slot on the controller to be detected )
- Download Action Replay Drivers
- Plug in controller with usb connector to the computer
- Install action Replay software
- Install xbreader.inf file from action replay driver folder
How to install controller driver from action replay:
- Open Device Manager in windows
- Find Unknown USB device
- Update driver > Point to the action replay drivers folder
- Select xbreader.inf and click ok
When it
detected
the devices,
it detected
two of
them.
One being
the gamepad
and the
other
being
unknown,
use the
INF that
it located in the drivers folder of action replay.
- Open software if connected you should see your memory card show up on the far left
- Drag and drop files from the zip for both The Installer and what game you are using
- Then drag and drop both files to memory card one by one
- Done
Copying Files from Memory Card to Hard Drive
- Plug memory card into first slot and turn on the xbox
- Go into Memory > Controller Memory card
- Once at the memory card screen Hit Right On the d-pad and it'll go into copy mode.
- Transfer both files to the hard disk. sid4.installer and game installer
- Once Transferred Reboot Console and pop in the game you will be using to load the save file with.
Installing Softmod
Agent Under fire:
- Load mission > Xbox Hard disk > select gamesave
Mech Assault:
Splinter Cell:
- Click Campaign > Select Run linux gamesave
Splinter Cell:
- Start game > Select Linux Profile > Select checkpoints options
- If it worked it should boot to the SID4 Main menu
- Enter Backup / Restore
- Create EEPROM Backup & Create MS Backup > Hit B to go back to main menu
- Install softmod Single Boot
- Select which dashboard you want to use ( EvolutionX or UnleashedX )
- It should install then once it's finished it'll prompt to reboot console and boot into the new dash
FTP:
I recommend using a free ftp software like filezilla
( From PC to Xbox )
You will be able to transfer over files such as roms and game backups using ftp.
On the bottom right of the main dash you should be able to see your ip address of the console
The default settings are
- Username : xbox
- Password: xbox
- Port: 21
- Enter E:/ Drive
- Create folders on E:/ Named Apps, Games, Emulators
- Copy over whatever files you want.
- Reboot console to see updated files in the folders on the dashboard
Iso game backups
To get iso backups to work off the hard drive you will need a program called gXiso
- Install program and run
- Only use save to local folder if you want to burn the game onto a DVD-R with Qwix
- Select iso file
- Upload > Enter ip > login info > Select E:/ Drive and folder selected as Games
once it's copied over reboot console and enjoy your game
I hope this has helped the noobs to softmodding This is by far the easiest way to get it done.
